Setting up and checking your new guitar is crucial to ensure it plays and sounds its best right out of the box. Here's what you might expect when we set up your new guitar:
- Visual Inspection: We begin by visually inspecting the guitar for any obvious defects, such as dents, scratches, or misaligned parts. Check the neck and the body for any finish imperfections.
- Neck Adjustment: Even brand-new guitars may require some adjustment to the neck to achieve optimal playability. Use the truss rod adjustment to set the neck relief. This ensures that the neck is neither too bowed nor too flat, facilitating comfortable playing and minimizing fret buzz.
- Action and Intonation: Check the string action (height of strings above the fretboard) and adjust it if necessary. Additionally, check the intonation by tuning the guitar and comparing the pitch of fretted notes to open strings. Adjust the bridge saddles to correct any discrepancies and ensure accurate tuning across the fretboard.
- Nut and Saddle/Bridge/Trem Inspection: Inspect the nut and saddle/Bridge for proper fit and alignment. Ensure that the strings sit securely in the nut slots without binding or excessive space. Similarly, ensure that the saddle sits snugly in its slot and provides proper string height or that the trem is adjusted correctly and working as intended.
By thoroughly setting up and checking your new guitar, you can ensure that it performs at its best from the moment you start playing.
What constitutes a perfect set up for the individual will vary from player to player. Our set up is a free of charge service and aims to ensure any instrument leaves us playing with a comfortable sensible action that takes into consideration the particular guitars design.
Our workshop will take into consideration things such as the fingerboard radius, scale length, neck profile, string selection, and the basic design characteristics of the instrument. No two designs or guitars are exactly alike. As players preferences will vary, our aim is to take all aspects into consideration and provide a sensible action that is pleasant and rewarding and easy to play but takes into consideration the guitars specific design and build.
As a set up preferences are personal and vary from player to player, and as the set up we provide is a free service in our very experienced workshop, we can not guarantee the guitar will play exactly to your individual preference. However, we can guarantee that it will leave us having been professionally assessed and set up with a sensible action that makes the most of the guitar and aims to ensure optimum playability within recommended parameters.
In short, the guitar will leave us playing as its supposed to and having been very carefully checked. For specific requests or alternative tunning please contact a member of our team.
