Why are these guitars becoming so sought after?

A Mcilroy guitar offers the player a wonderful blend of tonal character and elevated specifications. With a subtle touch of Celtic class, they also offer incredible balance and sensitivity, and are without exception beautifully finished and built only from carefully chosen premium quality woods. When you are looking around at custom guitar builders it's hard not to be impressed by the affordably of such a high-class guitar. Compare these guitars to many USA or other well-known European brands, and you will be left thinking they are something of a bargain in the world of hand crafted expertly and lovingly created musical instruments.

What do the different model names mean ?

Mcilroy designs use letters and numbers to identify the basic build. The letters refer to the body design/shape and dimensions. The numbers relate to the top wood and the back and sides used.

Some of the most popular choices are listed below. all these builds can then be customized depending on your own personal playing and cosmetic tastes and requirements.

Popular body sizes/shapes

Some popular basic body shape choices are as follows

A - Midsized Jumbo extremely popular model offering a comfortable body that is not too big but large enough to work exceptionally well with the high-quality woods Mcilroy selects for his guitars. Excellent for any style of playing and capable of offering a most snsative touch as well as producing a wall of Celtic infused tone. it has a 25-1/2"scale as standard and sites maybe somewhere between an OM and a Jumbo guitar.

AS - A more comfortable intuitive model producing a more intimate playing experience the Mcilroy AS has a body size that sits close to a convectional American OM or Classical build. if you are after a build that offers smaller proportions than a Dreadnought or Jumbo kind of build then this may be your ideal choice.

AJ - Wonderful Jumbo influenced guitar design truing the power, tone and volume up to 110%. The AJ builds will appeal to those who like a larger body size and are after a full room filling Mcilroy character from just the lightest of touches.

ASD - A mini dreadnought build offering reduced scale and dimensions. The Mcilroy ASD range offer a very intuitive and intimate playing experience and are comfortable and packed with character.

Performer series - A slimer version of the standard builds. Offering a perfectly balanced build aimed at satisfying the performing artist. Results in a 15 mm reduction in the depth of a build.

Some popular woods combinations are as follows

The choice wood for a guitar's back and sides are indicted by the first number. These choices are grouped into 3 basic levels of Standard, Premium, and Master.

So taking the example of an AS25, the " 2 " digit tells us the guitar has a walnut back and sides and the 5 refers to the guitars top, which in this case is Cedar.

1 - Mahogany
2 - Walnut
3 - Indian Rosewood

4 - Unfigured premium woods such as Koa or Maple
5 - Exotic woods such as Madagascar or Hounduran Rosewood or Cocobolo
6 - Figured versions of the 4 sections, i.e. figured Koa or Figured Maple

7, 8, 9 - Very high spec Cites compliant Brazilian/Amazon woods etc

The list of top choices available is as follows

The last digit in the builds name refers to the top chosen

0 - Sitka Spruce

5 - Western Red Cedar

6 - Italian Spruce

7 - Adirondack Spruce

8 - reclaimed Redwood

9 - Mahogany or other choices of hardwood
